Scrimshaw. The ancient art of scribing, hand etching or scratching an image into a hard surface, then ink is applied that seeps into the surface...

Hello! Thanks for checking out my site. Above is a quick explanation of how scrimshaw artwork is created. Scrimshaw images were once made by arctic Inuits and seafarers into whale's teeth and walrus tusks. My pocket knife handles are made of sustainable cattle or ox bone. My favorite surface to scratch images into, and one I believe I pioneered, is resin and fiberglass from broken or discarded surfboards. The surface is similar to bone in color, and the cracks, dents and discoloration make a rich surface to etch images into. Please stop in periodically, as new work will continually be added. Meanwhile, google-or follow-me in the usual places to see more. Just search peter spacek art. And please feel free to call with questions or requests. 631 807-2582
